America, America, God shine His face on thee,
and crown thy good with Brotherhood...

I'm somewhere on the path of a novel with no idea when the way will come out of these woods. And without a next book to be excited about, and because my phone has a camera, I've decided to post some photos that remind me about how great we are, that the fact that God Loves America...

Because in this election season, I'm trying to mold myself like our leaders and sight and sing our praises. Those people (so far this year "men") have podiums and I have my small blog. And my cell phone. But that's okay, because I recognize, like they do, that America is Great and God loves us. God believes in us. He's on our side. We say (and of course we believe) that He loves everyone equally, but we know--when we're kissing our children or lying alone in bed at night--that deepest down He loves us just a little more. Because we're America.

We have Ray Charles on the 4th of July, and no one else does,

when "Benny the Jet" Rodriguez, "Scotty" Smalls, "Squints" Palledorous, "Ham" Porter, "Yeah-Yeah" McClennan, "Repeat" and Timmy Timmons, Bertram Grover Weeks and Kenny DeNunez, would play their only night game a year:

O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare of freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

So it was with a sense of grandeur and gratitude,
touched by beauty and gratefulness, and humbled before our Manifest Destiny

that I flew into JFK International Airport the other day, a Front Door to America for so many foreign tourists, businesspeople, visiting students, dignitaries and just us common folk coming home, and I came across this sun lit Immigration Hall and this concert pianist at her grand piano playing Mozart and Gershwin,

the piano painstakingly painted to remind us of delft pottery and then I took in the larger picture

and realized the Airport Parents were casting attention also to our lovely Harbor, where tourists and residents alike can swim and sail and enjoy the sun, and then I saw stands set for even more musicians, so that at busy JFK times when the lines of passengers coming through Immigration were just so long, a Quartet or more could be playing

And I was reminded again that we constantly do invest in ourselves in ways big and small, we do put our best foot forward, we are great.
